Do not eat raw or undercooked meat, chicken, fish, raw eggs or foods that contain raw eggs. Unpasteurized dairy food, high-mercury fish, raw sprouts, unpasteurized dairy foods should not be consumed. Don’t eat shark, swordfish, king mackerel, or tilefish. These fish have high levels of mercury, which can harm your baby. Wash all produce before eating. Keep cutting boards and dishes clean. Avoid caffeine, or limit your intake to 300 mg or about 2 cups of coffee or tea each day. Don’t drink alcohol.
Staying active is important for your general health and can help you reduce stress, control your weight, improves blood circulation, boost your mood, and sleep better. Be sure to check with your doctor first before starting any exercise program. Some women say exercising while pregnant makes labor and delivery easier. Walk at least 30 minutes every day at a moderate pace, in cool, shaded areas or indoors in order to prevent overheating. It’s best to avoid exercises that may cause you to fall. Pilates, yoga, swimming, and walking are great activities for most pregnant women. Most important is listen to your body, though, and don’t overdo it. Talk to your health care professional about how much weight you should gain during your pregnancy, and regularly track your progress.
